BATH & BODY FRAGRENCE MIST: SWEET PEA

So refreshing and a light scent, wasn’t too overwhelming! I like how you can use it for multiple things, I don’t wash my hair every day, so after doing a dry shampoo on my scalp, I sprayed the mist on my hair and it felt and smelled like I just washed my hair, and also it takes the stale smell out of clothes in your closet that you typically don’t wash for awhile (you know what items) Im not a huge fan of the sweet pea scent, I like more citrus type scents, so if you like sweet scents, you will love this. The packaging is really posh, it looks so pretty on my vanity, definitely would make a great gift!

CHAPSTICK LIP SHIELD 365

I’m a lipgloss fanatic! So I tossed this into my purse for the week to take the place of my usual gloss routine to give it a test drive. Love how moisturizing it was, and kinda had a fruity taste which I like :) best part is the spf 50 and it’s a year round chapstick, it has the moisturizing benefits of chapped winter lips need in the winter and the moisturizing sun block for tanning in the sun. I put this on while I was putting my makeup on to let it prep my lips for my lipstick, this is a definite like in my book!

SALLY HANSEN NAIL POLISH STRIPS

Wasn’t a huge fan, but probably because Im in the nail industry and do designs by hand with nail polish but think this is great for the not so handy in the nail polish department gals! Very easy to apply and fits any nail size. It’s so easy you can do it with your eyes closed! My pattern I received in my Vox Box through Influenster to try was hot pink and black zebra stripe, really cool on the toes!

AVEENO DAILY MOISTURIZING BODY WASH

Love, Love, Love this New wash, smells wonderful, left my skin feeling smooth and silky but not oily or greasy. It has oatmeal in it which is so good for your skin, (see my past post for the oatmeal face mask!) I will definitely buy this in a full size, my fiancé loved how it made my skin feel ;)

SHEER COVER DUO CONCEALER

has 2 colors, the peach corrector which conceals puffy dark circles and has the more yellow concealer to cover redness and blemishes, or, mix the 2 together to cosmetically cover the naturally dullness under eyes type, toss this in your bag and you can spread it thin as foundation when you need touchups after work and your heading out for happy hour with friends. This concealer didn’t crease, and was very moisturizing so i didn’t get that dull dry caky look. even better it’s a mineral makeup. I feel that the price point is a bit high, but, you do get what you pay for, so it depends on how you look at it.

DR SCHOLLS BALL OF FOOT

This little gem was great, i had an event to go to last weekend and wore my heels that usually by the end of the night i want to end up bare foot because my feet are KILLING me! I gave this a shot and WOW, I love how it has a gel like cushion, so I had that comfy padding, normally when your standing for awhile mingling with other people, the balls of your feet are pressing against your shoe against the hard floor and that pressure is what start to make your feet hurt because there is no support between the hard floor and the shoe, not to mention the blood that starts to run to your feet and cause swelling! you get the picture, this padding aloud for that cushion, and didn’t make my toes scrunch , I say every woman need s to own a pair of these babies!

MAC Extended Play Lash is for those who have issues with flaking, fading, smudgy-coon (aka raccoon eye) issues. This one has an extra long wear and I experience no problems with it wearing off or flaking however I typically never have issues with my mascara doing this anyway but this is nice for those with oily lids or just general problems keeping their mascara in place.

One of the nicest parts about it is the fact it removes so easily. Warm water will take it off in a few seconds or an oil based remover. I’m impressed that such a long wearing formula didn’t end up sticking around, impossible to remove, for hours on end.

Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (or NEAT) refers to the calories you burn while going about your daily activities. Walking, typing, performing yard work — even fidgeting — increases our metabolic rate and can contribute significantly to the calories you burn throughout the day. “The average women consumes 12,397 calories per week, exercises for three to five hours a week, yet rarely reaches 2,000 (kcal)in exercise, which is the minimal amount need to lose weight through activity,” says Fabio Comana, senior fitness educator with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Time to cash in on those 100+ hours you’re awake to make a dent. Find activities that’ll get you moving more frequently during the day. Even giving up your seat on the bus helps! Standing for 2 hours a day (vs. sitting) enables you to lose nearly eight pounds in one year.

work out with a friend

Exercising with a friend not only holds you accountable but sparks competitiveness that can make you work harder, says Tom Holland, Connecticut-based running coach and author of Beat the Gym: Personal Trainer Secrets—Without the Personal Trainer Price Tag. “Studies with cyclists show that individual cyclists train slower than when they’re together with other cyclists.” Find a friend and make a pact to push each other.

use a heart rate monitor at the gym

A heart rate monitor tracks exercise intensity and can motivate you to work harder. “Most people don’t work out as hard as they think they do,” says Holland.

In general, you can calculate your maximum heart rate (MHR) by subtracting your age from 220.

Once you have your MHR, use it to vary your workouts. “You want to vary your intensity throughout the week,” says Holland. Most days should be easy/endurance days where you hit 50 to 60 percent of your MHR. But, make sure you sprinkle in a few hard days where you bring your heart rate up to 75 to 80 percent of your MHR.

This one may sound a little silly, but ever consider wearing a weight vest? It may sound silly, but a 130 pound woman wearing a 20 pound vest will burn approximately 15 percent more calories regardless of the weight-bearing activity, says Pire. But better if you wear it while walking, jogging, performing lower-body exercises like lunges, squats and step-ups… “or even while gardening, mowing the lawn, or grocery shopping,” says Pire.

Power is the ability to exert force in a short amount of time. In other words, it takes more power to lift 10 pounds within a half a second as it does to lift the same amount of weight within a full second. Adding this speed component to your workout helps boost calorie-burn. “Exercises with an explosive component recruits more muscles fibers and muscle groups and, as a result, burns more calories,” says Comana. The simplest way to integrate power into your exercise program? Perform your standing movements at a slightly higher speed.

For example: a typical squat may take four seconds to get out of. Try squatting down at your normal pace and quickly “exploding” up instead. Tips to keep in mind:

Start slowly and introduce one or two power moves a week into your regular training program.

Use slightly heavier weights than you normally would to prevent yourself from moving too fast. That could lead to strained joints.

Interval training involves mixing in bouts of intense exercise with recovery (or lower-intensity) periods. For example: alternating between running and walking, for 60 seconds each activity. According to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), these short, intense bouts burn more calories than working at the same intensity for the same amount of time. How much more depends on the intensity of the workout and your fitness level. The recovery periods allow for greater intensity during the work periods and, therefore, more calories burned overall.

High intensity intervals produce a greater after-burn effect known as Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC). “The body burns more calories as it returns to its pre-workout state. EPOC has been shown to keep energy expenditure elevated above your resting metabolic rate for up to 16 hours post exercise,” says Neal I. Pire, author of Plyometrics For Athletes at All Levels.

weight train with your cardio

Adding resistance training in addition to cardio helps boost metabolism all day long. You may not see the results for a month or so, but you just need to trust us and stick with it. “Building muscle boosts your resting metabolism, but it takes four to six weeks before you’ll see changes,” says Comana. Another weight-training bonus: fat occupies a third more space than muscle, so you look thinner with more muscle. According to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), a successful weight-training program must include:

Overload: The weight you use must be challenging to the muscle for changes in strength or tone to occur. The last three repetitions of each set should be difficult.

Progression: As your muscles become stronger, increase the resistance or otherwise create additional challenges to the muscle to avoid a progress plateau. While performing biceps curls, for example, increase the difficulty by performing slower repetitions and pausing at the top while keeping tension on the muscle.

HOW TO APPLY MAGNETIC POLISH

Apply your usual base coat and let it dry.
Apply your first coat of magnetic polish to all ten nails and give it a minute to set.
Apply one coat of magnetic polish to a single nail. If it looks opaque enough, continue to step four. If it looks too sheer, add another coat to all nails before continuing.
Working one nail at a time, apply a coat of magnetic polish and then immediately hold the magnet over the nail.
Hold the magnet completely still for at least 10 seconds. Holding it longer will give you a clearer design.
Continue this process (apply final coat, expose polish to magnet) on all ten nails.
Wait a few minutes for the magnetic design to set before applying topcoat.

FASHION FRIDAYS…..

After the weeklong marathon of fashion shows that is New York Fashion Week, we admit all the shows have already blended into a blur of bright lights and brighter clothes. But last night David and Phillipe Blond of The Blonds put on a show that people won’t forget so easily.

Since their runway debut in 2007, Florida native David and Puerto Rico-born Phillipe have been creating outfits that don’t take fashion so seriously. This season they paired up with Playboy and sent out big hair and leotards with sequins, pom-poms and fur. Stars such as Patricia Field, Jay Manuel and Johnny Weir sat front and center to witness it all.

While we can’t rock this in the office, celebrities such as Katy Perry, Britney Spears and “The Girls Next Door”’s Holly Madison have already worn designs from the label. And who could blame them — the looks are as crazy as they are creative. Whoever said fashion wasn’t fun clearly hasn’t been to a show by The Blonds.

September 14, 2011 - CND’s 15 year anniversary at Fashion Week is almost coming to a close, with only one more day to go. Today’s runway nails were Playboy Bunny-approved, feathered and furious, fleshy, and neon bright:

At The Blonds, Kristina Estabrooks created”Glitz & Glam” manicures for a collection inspired by 60’s Playboy glamour infused with razzle dazzle spectacle we all know and love. The 20 sets of nail tips took over 100 hours of manual labor to hand detail, and included a “Stockings Series” of manicures portraying fishnets, lacy tights and sexy seams. Vintage cosmic-shaped glass was imported from Germany to shape diamond-decadent nails that shined out loud in the spotlight.
