Nails And Lipstick
TODAY ON THRIFTY THURSDAY IS ALL ABOUT THE TAN! SUMMER IS AROUND THE CORNER, AND IM SURE YOUR FEELING SUPER PALE AND NOT BIKINI READY! WE ALREADY KNOW THE DANGERS OF BASTING IN THE SUN OR GOING INTO TANNING BEDS, SO I DON’T NEED TO LECTURE, INSTEAD…HERE ARE SOME GREAT TIPS TO LOOK BRONZED NOW!
PUT ON YOUR HOME MADE SELF TANNER AND THEN SPF BEFORE YOU GO OUT, YOU WILL ALREADY LOOK TAN ,BUT WILL BE GRADUALLY BUILD A TAN THE SAFE WAY UNDERNEATH WHILE OUT IN THE SUN,IT’S A WIN, WIN SITUATION!
DIY Self-Tanning Lotion:
1. COCOA - This one blew my mind. Two ingredients, one fabulous tan. (You may need to adjust for your skin tone, and remember that this is NOT waterproof.) Perfect for a natural bronze look, and it smells yummy, too!
Ingredients:
• 1 tablespoon white unscented lotion
• 1 tablespoon pure cocoa powder“Mix the lotion and cocoa powder together until very smooth and creamy, and apply with a sponge or makeup wedge. Your tan will last until your next shower.”
Tea -
- 3/4 cup water
- 3 tea bags
- 1/4 cup lanolin
- 1/4 cup sesame seed oil
- Boil the water and brew a strong tea
- Pour 1/4 cup tea into a blender with the other ingredients and blend at a low speed. Slowly add the rest of the tea while blending.
- Test out your results on a small, not usually visible spot on your body. Use sparingly.
DHA-Mix together a teaspoon of water with a pinch of hyaluronic acid and 10 to 12 granules of DHA. Stir until the DHA powder is dissolved, and then spread the blend evenly over your skin, massaging it in. This amount is enough for the face. You can substitute the teaspoon of water with a teaspoon of a water-based moisturizing lotion.
BRONZER-
SCRAPE OFF SOME BRONZER INTO A BOWL, SO THAT IT LOOKS LIKE LOOSE POWDER, YOU CAN PRESS CHUNKS WITH A SPOON TO FLATTEN. THEN ADD ALOE LOTION AND MIX THOROUGHLY, YOU MAY HAVE TO ADJUST THE RATIO BASED ON YOUR SKIN COLOR NOW. YOUR LOTION CAN EVEN BE AN SPF!SO GO GET YOUR TAN ON! ON THRIFTY THURSDAY, I ALWAYS HAVE YOU COVERED!

Who watched the Golden Globes this weekend? We’re loving Zooey Deschanel’s tuxedo nails (especially since we did ‘em at Ruffian’s Fall 2011 show) At Fashion Week…
To Sport this look, D.I.Y Tip:
Polish a French manicure design using any 2 colors of choice, we used a custom blend purple/lavender shade and black (CND Blackjack) as the french tip LET DRY!
for the bow tie, use a toothpick, detail art brush, marblier tool and with the black, create an X at the top of the nail then connect the sides and fill in, add a dot in the center of the X
Then place your 2-3 dots down the center of the nail..Top coat
*** TOO HARD? HERES AN EASIER SHORTCUT****
On a clear nail, create your french line, and bow tie etc first, this way if you need to clean up the lines you can do so with a art brush and polish remover, let fully dry, then go over with translucent shimmer color.

So I couldn’t take another day with my chipped up nails! Its because I didn’t have CND Shellac on them..I should’ve known
They were driving me insane! Literally by day 3 after my manicure last week they were chipping, So my advice is…Save up the extra dough and get shellac’d! its worth every penny, and NO DRY TIME, NO MORE SITTING AT THE NAIL DRY STATION! and the best is no chipping or peeling! You will have a manicure that lasts 2 weeks and looks the same as it did the day you left the salon!

TUESDAY TREND REPORT…
2012 is all about brights! Bright lips, bright nails, bright clothes! No matter what your fashion or beauty style is, you can be as understated or overstated with this.
This season at fashion week, i loved the bright lip and the clean eye look, its so fresh and gorgeous. I personally am not about flash all over so the bright lip and bright nail would be more my style.
HOW DO I GET THE LOOK AND FOR LESS?
Its so easy, you want to create a dewy look on the face. mix an equal about of foundation and moisturizer together and apply to your face concentrating on the T Zone of your face (thats the forehead, nose, mouth.
Then take the lipstick your going to use, apply a little to the back of your hand to warm up the product and add a tiny amount of highlight serum or or moisturizer and blend, then tap that color that you mixed on your hand to the apples of your cheeks, and tap the same mix on your lips…(this is for a fresh look) then load on the mascara
HOW TO VIDEO COMING SOON ON THE MEGA LASH LOOK WITH JUST MASCARA
For bold, punchy lips, moisturize lips first ( I use aquafor) then blot. Then line your lips with the matching lipliner to the lip color your using and color in lips. seal the lipliner with powder (translucent, or regular face powder) then apply lipstick, then blot again on tissue and seal AGAIN with powder, the apply one more coat of lipstick…WhaLa! Sexy Lips that will last.

MANICURE MONDAYS:
Your finger nails and toe nails look dry and yellowing? AND the cuticles look dry, you have those annoying hang nails..whiten your nails and hydrate the skin with this simple at home trick, take a break from polish and use this at home trick for FREE!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
* BOWL & WATER
* OLIVE OIL
* LEMONS OR LEMON JUICE
* OLD TOOTH BRUSH
* In a bowl add warm water and lemon juice, you can even add cut lemons too, then add olive oil and swirl around the mixture. Make sure you have no polish on and soak your hands and/or feet in this miracle mixture. after a few minutes, scrub your nails with an old tooth brush even underneath the nails. Then rinse your nails under clean warm water and pat dry. massage some cuticle oil ( I like CND Solaroil )into your cuticles and lotion into your skin.
* I DON’T HAVE CUTICLE OIL?
You can use olive oil, or vitamin E ( Found in health food stores )
* MY NAILS ARE VERY YELLOW AND NEED A MEGA BOOST?
Take some baking soda and mix some water into it to create a paste and scrub that into the nails, then rinse clean. You can also try whitening toothpaste, or peroxide mixed with baking soda (these tricks really work, trust me ) last, you can get polident whitener ( used for dentures ) and dissolve that tablet in some warm water, and soak.

HOW DO YOU PICK OUT A LIPSTICK SHADE?
You walk up to a makeup counter in a department store and all you see are over 100 different lipsticks, all different colors, lip glosses, lip balms, lip pots…Where do you begin? So i bet you grab a lipstick and test it on your hand right? WRONG! the right area to test out the trueness of the color is on the inside finger tip, that is the closest and most true to your lip. bet you didn’t know that! also, ask the professional to test it on your lips, so you can see how you look in it ( make sure they sanitize it first, ewwww ) there are a variety of shades, (let say red for instance), because of skin tone, wether your a cool or warm or even neutral (will get into that in another topic ) so the variety is there to find YOURS!
WHAT IF IM IN A DRUGSTORE WITH NO TESTERS?
This is easier once you know if your cool, warm or neutral. Most do have testers, but if you stumble across a lip shade that has no tester? I know some stores like CVS will let you purchase a shade, bring it home, try it, and if you don’t like it, they allow you to return opened makeup (just don’t use it a thousand times )

The best shade is the one that still looks great even if you’re wearing no other makeup. This is a color that will always work for you.

If you want just a hint of color, you’ll want to opt for a colored lip gloss or lip tint over regular lipstick. Most cosmetic lines offer sheerer products for you to choose from.

You’ll want to test lipstick whenever possible. Just because a shade looks great in the tube, doesn’t mean it’ll look good on you.
