Fashion designers are taking hands-on approach to the manicure.

Nail art, once associated with cheesy decals, has become nail fashion — and no designer would think of sending a model down the runway without a signature polish, specially coordinated to complement the colors and theme of a collection.

“Nails are the ulimate accessory,” said Candice Manacchio, a nail and fashion expert from CND Nails. “They’re just as important as your hair, your makeup, your iPhone case and your shoes for putting together a coordinated look.”

Some designers choose to keep it simple — others demand mini-masterpieces.

One particularly gasp-worthy example? The “woven” nails at Rodarte, which wowed its attendees with its “Modern Medieval” theme on Tuesday at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

In order to create the “basket-weave” look, ten CND nail stylists hand painted each nail tip. Next, they painted pieces of wax paper a subtly different color and then sliced them into slivers.

Using tweezers, they wove the strips into a lattice.

Each set has 22 nail tips, to accommodate the varying nail size of each model.

“There were so many left over,” said Manacchio. “It was a little heartbreaking after so much work.”

Her team spent over 200 hours creating 30 complete sets of nails. That’s 15 minutes per nail.

Designers work with companies like CND, Essie, OPI, Deborah Lippmann and Dashing Diva to create eye-popping manicures with contrasting colors, patterns, textures and dimensions.

Still, doesn’t it seem like a lot of work? After all, aren’t people looking at the clothes, not the makeup?

“The nails are becoming more and more important,” said CND rep Hannah Longman. “The photos of the manicure will be appearing online and in magazines for months. And besides, it’s a piece of the collection that fashion fans can actually imitate at home — for a very small cost.”

The best thing about nail fashion is that you can be as creative or detailed as you want to create a runway look.

While it may look like Manacchio used an expensive paintbrush to create the black and silver nails for Nicole Miller, the truth was much more budget-friendly.

“I dipped the edge of a makeup sponge in polish after creating the diamond pattern,” she said. “That’s all.”

A great place to start? A colorful take on the simple French manicure.

“Seafoam green was huge on the runway,” she said. “Why not paint the nail while and create a green tip?  Or vice versa?”

Some designers stepped away from nail art this season, choosing to stick with simple grey pinks and rose shades.

Victoria Beckham, Christian Siriano, Donna Karan and Elie Tahari chose to stick with pale pink and nearly nude polishes.

The nail brand Zoya teamed up with Peter Som, delivering soft shades of pink, lilac, silver, sea green and this season’s signature color: tangerine.

5:00 am Alarm Goes Off, Have to get ready to leave my hotel at 6:30am for a Call time of 7:00am

First, COFFEE!!!

No Time to stop and get breakfast, so I fueled up at the show, first show is the designer RODARTE, I pick healthier choice to keep me going instead of a carb crash later… MY choice, Fruit granola yogurt, egg fritatta, coffee

Now, time to belt up and start polishing models toes first, so they will be dry for the shoes. As a team lead, I give the run down to my team of what needs to get done, how many models, and what the color is. this show, 33 models.

The night before, me and my team worked on the nail tips for the show. each nail took 15 minutes to make, this was by far the hardest nail show we had of the season as far as nail design. Total hours to make this set … Over 200!

Now, lets start applying them…9:30am

10:30 am- Press arrives, need to stop and do interviews while my team works hard to finish all 33 models for a show time of 12:00

12:00 time to pack up and move on to the rest of the day….

12:30 try to grab a cab to head back to the hotel to work on nails for tonights show, they aren’t finished yet, we need to be done with them by atleast 5:00, plus i still need to eat lunch, im starving!

1:15 grab lunch to refuel…again, keeping it healthy for energy

2:00 time to work on nails for tonights show at the BLONDES, call time is 6:30pm and squeezi working on nails for the next morning show…my assignment is nails for tomorrow for Norman Ambrose, my team is working on the blondes nails

4:00pm-OMG I need Coffee Again, Craving Starbucks Iced Coffee with Soy Milk, YUM!

4:30, back to working on nails in my hotel room, I set up the desk to look like a nail shoppe

5:30 time to freshen up for the next show,

6:30, off to the next show..The Blondes

7:00pm, set up the nails for the team

8:00pm stick the nail strips to my arm to apply the nails to the models while they are in makeup or hair. The nail team is mobile, we don’t have a set station ever! we get right up on the side of hair or makeup

9:30pm go backstage where the models are getting dressed and squeeze in between the crowd to make sure all nails are still on before the models walk, hopefully none fell off!! Im so tired!

10:45 nail show successful, get a cab and head back to hotel to work on more nails

11:30pm work on more nails until 2:30am

3:00 am..Goodnight, Sleep atleast 3 hours to repeat the next day

I arrived to my brides parents home in Niantic, CT on Saturday, The house was beautiful, right on the water literally. From the minute I walked in the door, I have never seen so much detail put into a wedding…

from this seating/floor plan above, the table seating cards to the wedding favors, everything was straight out of a catalog, it’s amazing how much can go into one day. The brides mother said she changed the seating arrangement so much, so this chart above is brilliant, the sticky notes allow you to keep moving the people. Check out the extras the guests were getting…

There were baskets filled with Flip Flops in every size for the woman that would want to kick off their heels and put these on. The bride also had Pashminas made for every women attending as well. For the bridesmaids, kacie the bride had robes and gift totes made for all of her girls, and they wore the robes while getting hair and makeup done with me and tonya.

aren’t the robes so cute? So, the bridesmaids dresses were all different pastel colors that were really pretty. They all wore a different syle and different color..

But… Nothing of course is better  than the bride. She put so much heart & thought into this, look at her dress and shoes!!!!

So of course I did Airbrush makeup on her, and tonya the hairstylist with Naomi’s Studio did her hair in a beautiful chignon with a ribbon of crystals… heres some pics and the before and after…

I hope Kacie’s wedding day was everything she dreamed it would be. I really enjoyed her family and friends and the hospitality of her mother. Everything was so beautiful! Congratulations Kacie :)

WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT AGES AND HAVE DIFFERENT LIVES. BUT WHEN WE FINALLY DO GET TOGETHER IT IS LIKE WE JUST WERE TOGETHER YESTERDAY.

YOUR FAMILY IS TRULY THE ONLY ONES YOU CAN TRUST. YOU CAN BE BRUTALLY HONEST WITH EACH OTHER AND BE SO MAD, BUT YOU WILL ALWAYS LOVE THEM. ME AND MY SISTERS NEVER STABBED EACH OTHER IN THE BACK, TALKED BEHIND THERE BACK ( WELL WE DO) BUT WE EVENTUALLY SAY WHAT WE NEED TO EACH OTHERS FACE, AND WE ARE EACH OTHERS FANS.

IF YOU DIDN’T KNOW THIS ALREADY, YES THERE ARE TONS OF TATTOO COVER MAKEUP OUT THERE, HOWEVER, ONE RUB UP AGAINST IT AND IT’S COMING OFF!!! BIG NO NO WHWN IT COMES TO WEDDING DAY, A VERY EXPENSIVE WEDDING DRESS, OR EVEN… RAIN! SO, THATS WHERE THE BEAUTY OF WATER PROOF AIRBRUSH MAKEUP COMES IN AND OF COURSE… SKILL!

SO WHAT I DID HERE AS YOU CAN SEE IS I STARTED TO FIRST AIRBRUSH WITH RED. THE COLOR RED BLOCKS OUT BLACK, DARK BLUE AND VIBRANT COLORS. YOU WANT TO FIRST CREATE A COLOR BLOCK THEN START TO WORK YOUR WAY UP WITH COLORS THAT RESEMBLE THE SKIN TONE. IF YOU ONLY HAVE MAKEUP, THAT IS FINE, USE A RED LIP LINER, OR LIPSTICK, THEN WORK YOUR WAY UP WITH CONCEALERS… THE TRICK IS

TO POWDER IN BETWEEN EACH COAT WITH TRANSLUCENT POWDER TO SET THE COLOR YOU DID BEFORE. IT TAKES TIME AND PATIENCE!!!

MY BRIDE WAS SO HAPPY WITH THE RESULT. TATTOO GONE, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! THIS IS ONE OF THE MANY PARTS OF MY JOB I LOVE.

Deconstructed organic forms and clashing prints in apricot, violet, cream, and sage tones characterized Jen Kao’s chaotically feminine spring collection. Color-blocked, cut, and dyed fabric transformed into fashionable works of art. It’s one of the most architectural collections we’ve seen on the runway so far.

MAKEUP

“Polished grunge is the inspiration behind the makeup look at Jen Kao,” said Maybelline New York Global Makeup Artist Charlotte Willer. “The bright lips and flirty lashes give a playful look, while the sleek eyes provide a hard contrast.” Charlotte prepped the skin with Maybelline Fit Me! Foundation and dusted Maybelline Fit Me! Powder across the T-zone. She applied Maybelline Fit Me! Blush in Medium Coral, a warm orange-based shade, on the apples of the cheeks. She used the gold shade from Maybelline Eye Studio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow in Give Me Gold to create a straight hard line that extended from the outer corners of the eyes towards the temples. She appliedMaybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in Quenched on the lid for a glossy yet natural sheen. A few individual lashes were sporadically placed along the lash line and coated with Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara in Black Drama. Charlotte swiped a combination of Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Colors in Coral Crush and Are Your Red-dy on the lips.

HAIR

“We wanted a strong, independent girl–a ‘tank woman.’ We felt like having fun and making sure this was a look where the girl could have completed the look herself.” Peter Gray for Cutler/Redken Salon.

1. Blow out hair with Redken Full Frame 07 Volumizing Mousse and split hair into two ponytails separating from bottom to crown and crown to forehead.

2. Merge pony tails into one at the top center of the head and create a whispy ’90s knot, leaving the ends out hanging toward the face.

3. Create two small braids with colored string interlaced. Pull them up into the ponytail base to make the braids look like the anchor point of the bun.

4. Finish with Redken Forceful 23 Super Strength Finishing Spray to lock hair into place and Cutler Shine Tattoo for shine.

NAILS

To enhance the highly stylized pieces, Wanda Ruiz and the CND team created gradation manicures, artfully diffused with an airbrush tool. Recreate the look at home with a stippling sponge using CND Colours in Midnight Sapphire, Anchor Blue, Rouge Red, and Green Scene each combined with Inkwell and topped with CND Air Dry Top Coat while wet for an ombré finish.

Inspired by the warm beaches of tropical paradise, gradient floras, laces and burnout embroideries, sweeping silks and cottons along with wind-adoring drapery and the soft colors of sunrise and sunset set ablaze the stage at the Jen Kao show. Meanwhile, the Custo Barcelona show, titled “Tripolar,” divided its runway looks into three ascending groups (Dual, Kaleidoscophio, Mirame) as androgynous looks dominated by contemporary patterns and helmed with mirrors, holographic and metal embellishments. Even graphic 3-D technology made an appearance!

Mayonnaise-Baby Oil Dry Skin Treatment

Makes 1 application

2 tablespoons real mayonnaise 
1 teaspoon baby oil

> Combine both ingredients.
> Smooth onto face, neck, rough elbows and knees or anywhere else you feel might benefit from it.
> Leave for 20 minutes.
> Rinse off thoroughly with tepid water.

Tightening/Toning Lemon Egg White Mask

Makes 1 application

Juice from 1/2 a lemon (strained) 
1 egg white

> Beat together the egg white and lemon juice for 3 minutes.
> Apply directly to your face, avoiding the eyes.
> Leave on for 30 minutes.
> Rinse off with warm water.

Honey-Cocoa Butter Lip Balm

Makes 100 applications

2 tbls. olive oil 
1/2 tsp. honey 
3/4 tsp. beeswax — grated 
1/2 tsp. pure cocoa butter 
Flavored oil of your choice (like peppermint or vanilla) 
1 vitamin E capsule

> In a small saucepan, heat oil, honey, wax and butter over a low heat until just melted. 
> Remove from heat and allow to cool for 2-3 minutes. 
> Stir in flavoring and contents of vitamin E capsule. 
> Pour into containers of your choice.

Revitalizing Face Mask with Egg White, Cucumber and Avocado

Makes 1 application

1/2 cup chopped cucumber 
1/2 cup chopped avocado 
1 egg white 
2 tsp. powdered milk

• Combine all of the ingredients in a blender until they form a smooth paste.
• Apply the mask to your face and neck using circular upward movements.
• Leave the mask on for 30 minutes, or until dry.
• Rinse your face and neck with warm water and finish with a cold water rinse.
• This mask will keep up to 30 minutes in the refrigerator if you need to prepare it slightly in advance.

Peach and Egg White Firming Spa Mask

Makes 1 application

1 ripe peach — peeled and stoned 
1 egg white

> Whip peach and egg white together in a blender till smooth. 
> Gently pat mixture over face. 
> Leave on for 30 minutes. 
> Rinse off with cool water
